The World Premiere of this stunning new musical took place at the Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne, September 12-14 2024.
Vagabond Skies – The Van Gogh Musical, by Sussex based creative team Tony Norman and Mark Edwards, tells the dramatic story of Vincent’s life as an artist.
The only person Vincent could rely on was his loving brother Theo.
The close bond between the brothers is a central theme in the musical.
The letters they wrote to each other give a fascinating insight into Vincent’s many moods. His words are woven into the lyrics of his story as Vagabond Skies unfolds.
“Vagabond Skies took a long time to complete,” says Tony Norman. “When writing about the world’s best loved painter, you must be sure you’re telling his story as honestly as you can.” Research trips to Amsterdam, Paris and Provence were all vital.
Passion. Rage. Sorrow. Horror. They are all part of Vincent’s complex journey. He had numerous love affairs but never found true love. He was lonely, poor and misunderstood.
But one thing never changed: Vincent’s burning ambition to be a respected artist.
When Vagabond Skies had its premiere in Eastbourne in September 2024, audiences were immersed in the world of Van Gogh. His artwork filled the stage in a way never seen before.
This truly exciting piece of theatre is an experience not to forget.
